Welcome to the A&Y Greenway website! You are “all aboard” to view the most up-to-date information for the A&Y Greenway planning efforts. The planning is a collaborative effort led by the Towns of Summerfield and Stokesdale, Guilford County, and the Greensboro Urban Area MPO. Currently, a feasibility study is underway for the proposed rail trail. The trail follows the old Atlantic and Yadkin rail corridor and extends through Summerfield to downtown Stokesdale and beyond. The trail will eventually be incorporated into the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail that stretches nearly 1000 miles from Clingmans Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains to Jockey’s Ridge on the Outer Banks.
Once constructed, the A&Y greenway will celebrate the natural heritage of the area, connect important destinations, and provide trail surfaces for a variety of recreational opportunities. This multi-use trail is anticipated to be used by walkers, joggers, bicyclists, horseback riders, and rollerbladers as they enjoy the diverse rural, suburban and urban landscapes in this beautiful area that is part of the North Carolina Piedmont. We invite you to be part of the planning of this public recreation facility that celebrates the history of the Atlantic and Yadkin railroad.
